An Important Announcement from Bob
September 8, 2009 |
Good Afternoon. As a trusted friend and one of my valued supporters I wanted to notify you that I have made a decision not to seek re-election to a sixth term as State Representative in the fall of 2010.
As you are aware, I have spent my entire life in public service and in the fall of 2000 you honored me with the opportunity to continue this journey of service as your State Representative. I have been fortunate and blessed to be elected to this position for five terms and owe a deep sense of gratitude to you for your continued support and friendship.
During my time in elected office I have been proud to be a leader on issues that are important to you, our Commonwealth and our society. Key issues such as enhanced funding for public education, expansion of health care, economic development, housing creation, a woman’s reproductive rights, caring for those afflicted with disabilities, and equal rights for all of our citizens are areas where I have focused my work and we have made enormous strides.
In addition, during my tenure in elected office I have been fortunate to have superior and dedicated staff who has worked with me to answer your questions and assist you in times when you needed your government to work for you. We have maintained a district office for my entire tenure and it's estimated that we have responded to nearly 20,000 constituent inquiries during this time.
I can assure you our work is not done yet and service to those living in our community and the 13th Worcester District will remain at as high a standard as ever.
Once again, I thank you for your continued support and friendship. No words can truly express my gratitude to you.
Sincerely,
Bob

On Wednesday, January

for the 13th Worcester District. His children (l-r) Patrick, Michael,
Bobby, and Annie joined him on the floor of the House Chamber for the
ceremony.

After
more than 9 years of having the honor of representing the
people of the 13th Worcester District, Bob
has established a strong foundation of experience and has
built relationships with colleagues from across the Commonwealth
to sponsor legislation important to constituents, whether
in the City
of Worcester or the Town
of Paxton.
On
Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, Bob was appointed House Chair of
the Joint
Committee on Public Service, to help lead the
committee to address such challenging issues as collective
bargaining for state employees, salaries, civil service, and
retirement of public employees, and pension reform, which
was taken up early in this, the 186th Session of the General
Court of Massachusetts. On
Tuesday, June 16, 2009, "An
act providing responsible reforms in the pension system"
which reforms public employee pensions, was signed into law
by Governor Patrick. As House Chair of the Joint Committee
on Public Service, Bob led the committee to address and end
the abuses which have plagued our public employee system for
years. For a link to Bob's "As I See It"
article in the Telegram & Gazette about this reform measure,

This year, more pension reform will be taken up before his Committee. In addition, challenging issues as creditable
service, disability, investment restrictions, and Cost of
Living Adjustment (COLA), and veteran's issues will be debated
this session.
Locally, Bob continues to focus on issues important
to Central Massachusetts and the 40,000 people of the 13th
Worcester district, such as affordable housing, public education,
green energy, and economic development.
